The Bridge, Sting’s 15th studio album under his own name, was released in November 2021 and peaked at number 10 in much of Europe. Last June, a deluxe edition was released. “Water, water everywhere,” Emma Harrison wrote in Clash Music. Written while the world was under lockdown due to the epidemic, Sting muses on a variety of ideas and topics centered on water, including the effects of lockdown, love, loss, separation, disruption, and political unrest in his trademark timeless narrative manner.
The review went on to say, “The Bridge is so much more than a clever concept album. There are links between each of the songs, and the prolific musician takes to the theme like a duck to water (sorry!). And while water is the common element, it is really about connection – connection between people, life and death, and more.
Sting, a devoted fan of his hometown’s Premiership soccer team Newcastle United, went back home last Thursday (20) to perform a special concert at the city’s Live Theatre to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tyneside venue. Jimmy Nail, a fellow Geordie and actor-singer, provided vocal assistance on a few tracks. The brand-new My Songs tour dates kick off in Bilbao on June 1 and begin in Bedford, UK, on June 24.
