Robert Smith – The Cure has replied directly to fans’ complaints regarding Ticketmaster fees collected during the Cure’s “Verified Fan” sale for tickets to dates on their next tour. “I am as sickened as you all are by today’s Ticketmaster ‘fees’ debacle,” Smith tweeted late Wednesday night. “To be clear: the artist has no control over them. I’ve been wondering how they’re justified. If I receive any coherent responses, I will notify you all.”

“Ticketmaster agreed with us that they charged many fees too high after we talked more. They offered a $10 per ticket refund to all ‘Verified Fan’ accounts for lowest ticket price (‘LTP’) transactions as a gesture of goodwill,” Smith wrote on Thursday night. He also said that “Verified Fan” accounts would get a $5 refund for other ticket sales, and that tickets on sale tomorrow would cost less.

Earlier this week, Smith said that the band chose to use Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” system to stop scalping and give more fans face-value tickets. He also said that the band turned down the company’s dynamic pricing and “Platinum” tickets. He called the scheme a “greedy scam” that made tickets for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s current tour cost thousands of dollars.
